Date: Thursday, October 30
Time: 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm (ET)
Overview:
From Burmese pythons in the Everglades to lionfish in our coastal waters, invasive species pose some of the greatest threats to Florida’s native wildlife and ecosystems. While these non-native animals disrupt food webs, outcompete native species, and can cause lasting damage to our state’s lands and waters, their presence is ultimately the result of human influence. Addressing their impacts requires thoughtful, science-based solutions.
Join the Florida Wildlife Federation for a special Halloween-eve livestream conversation on Florida’s invasive wildlife with Donna Kalil, Python Elimination Specialist with the South Florida Water Management District, and Dr. Steve A. Johnson, Professor and Interim Chair of the Dept. of Wildlife Ecology & Conservation at the University of Florida. They will highlight the challenges these species present, the latest science on their impacts, and the careful, responsible approaches experts across the state are taking to manage them.
This timely spooky discussion will reveal the hidden threats lurking in wild Florida—and how Floridians can take action to protect our native wildlife.
