Ocklawaha Restoration Funding

In a historic milestone, $6.25 million was approved by the Florida Legislature to begin restoring the Ocklawaha River by partially breaching the Rodman Dam.
Over 2,000 supporters contacted Governor DeSantis asking him to approve funding.
Governor DeSantis vetoed the $6.25 million in the 2025/26 state budget.

Florida Forever Funding

During the 2025 Florida Legislative Session, Florida Forever, the state’s longstanding land conservation program, faced a $100 million Senate proposal while the House proposed $0 in state budget allocations.
7,715 messages sent to legislators, urging them to keep Florida Forever funded.
Despite overwhelming public support, Florida Forever was slashed to just $18 million in the 2025/26 state budget, a sharp drop from the $100 million annual commitment promised in 2023.

Guana River Land Swap

The Acquisition and Restoration Council (ARC) considered a proposal from The Upland LLC to swap 600 acres of public land in Guana River WMA for scattered parcels of unrelated habitat across the state.
151,146 messages sent to ARC committee members.
The application was withdrawn by The Upland LLC on May 19, 2025.

State Park Preservation Act

Answering the call of Floridians, the State Park Preservation Act (HB 209) unanimously passed the Florida Legislature.
3,398 messages sent to Governor DeSantis.
State Park Preservation Act (HB 209) was signed into law on May 22, 2025.

Florida State Parks Under Threat

In 2024, leaked plans revealed proposals to build golf courses, hotels, and other developments in state parks—sparking public outcry and a call for stronger protections.
The FDEP and state representatives received over 800,000 messages from 247,952 individuals.
Following public pressure, Governor DeSantis announced that the controversial development plans for state parks would not move forward “for now”—a temporary win that underscored the need for permanent protections.

Cyanotoxins Petition

Algal toxic blooms in Florida are a growing public health and environmental hazard, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) must establish national safety standards.
2,434 petition signatures submitted to the EPA.
We urged the EPA to use its authority under the Clean Water Act to establish national cyanotoxin water quality standards and better protect communities and ecosystems from harmful algal blooms — but the EPA has yet to act.

VETO HB 87 - “Taking of Bears”

House Bill 87, the "Taking of Bears" bill, allows individuals to lethally take Florida black bears under vague and broad circumstances, undermining science-based wildlife management.
925 messages sent to Governor DeSantis to veto HB 87.
Governor DeSantis signed HB 87, “Taking of Bears,” into law on June 21, 2024.

Save Split Oak Forest

Split Oak Forest, a protected conservation area in Central Florida, faced a threat from a proposed toll road that would cut through its habitat—setting a dangerous precedent for future development in conservation lands.
954 petition signatures submitted to FWC.
Despite strong public opposition, the project received approval to move forward on May 9, 2024.
