Each year, the Florida Wildlife Federation (FWF) proudly supports the next generation of conservation leaders through its scholarship program at the University of Florida. Established in 2004, this scholarship seeks to inspire future wildlife ecologists and conservationists committed to preserving Florida’s rich biodiversity.

Rooted in FWF’s mission of environmental stewardship, the scholarship is awarded annually to undergraduate and graduate students in UF’s Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation. These merit-based awards recognize students who show exceptional promise in contributing to the conservation of wildlife and natural habitats in Florida. In 2025, five undergraduates and two graduate students were selected for this honor—each bringing a unique passion and vision to the field of wildlife conservation.

Elle Henson, a rising junior majoring in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation, is dedicated to minimizing the environmental impact of human activity in her home state. With a focus on avian conservation, Elle plans to use her career to preserve biodiversity and educate others on sustainable living. “I wish to sincerely thank the Florida Wildlife Federation for their help in giving me resources to continue my mission of stewardship,” she shared.

Angelina Fuentes, a rising senior, is equally passionate about restoring Florida’s ecosystems. Having grown up surrounded by the state’s unique natural beauty, she’s committed to reversing habitat destruction and ensuring that future generations of human and wildlife alike can thrive. “Their investment in my education will help me make strides in my career in the future,” Angelina said of FWF’s support.

Felix Roy, a graduating senior with a passion for endangered snake species and herpetology, also studies carnivore ecology and environmental justice. His goal is to bridge science and public engagement through effective communication and inclusive conservation. “I am incredibly grateful to the Florida Wildlife Federation for their support,” said Felix. “Their investment in my future will significantly assist me in taking these next steps in my journey.”

These students exemplify the mission of the Florida Wildlife Federation with their passion of safeguarding Florida’s water, wildlife, and wild spaces by taking action today to prevent irreversible loss tomorrow. In addition to financial support, the scholarship provides recipients with access to research opportunities, field experiences, and connections with leading experts in wildlife conservation.
