Description
Taking care of 3 babies is not easy. While two were hiding under this Snowy Plover, the third one walked in from behind. The mother didn’t realize and lifted her wings tossing the little one overboard. No harm done though. Being just a little fur ball, it got up and walked right under the mother’s wings. With less than 31,000 left in the world, the Snowy Plover population is near threatened and rapidly declining. So coming across a Snowy Plover nest is a rarity in itself. I was very fortunate to get the opportunity to spend an hour photographing this nest. Laying low on the ground, fully camouflaged and keeping a low profile allowed me to observe and capture many intimate shots without disturbing them.
