2021 FWF Photo Contest

Description

I recently started playing with backlight photography and its two concepts – Rim Light and Bokeh Balls. While rim light requires near neutral exposure, bokeh balls depending on the intensity of the sun requires underexposing far to the left. While I was working with this Snowy Egret it was beautifully backlit against the rocks of the Sebastian inlet jetty. But the sun was pretty high and exposing for the rim light was washing out all the water in front and behind the rocks. Playing around with different settings I noticed that every time a boat went by from behind the rocks, it created waves and in the shade of the boat the waves illuminated. That was all I needed. I stayed put in the sand and waited for another boat to come by and as expected a huge wave splashed against the jetty and illuminated into these Christmas Lights. Coincidentally this happened on Christmas Eve morning!
